Roy’s Blog: “Obstacles”

1 Samuel 17:47 “…The battle is the Lord’s…”

The amazing scene:

The army of the Philistines is arrayed on one mountain at Socoh, and the army of Israel faces them on the other mountain across from them with the deep valley of Elah between.  Every day Goliath would challenge the Israelites to a duel of hand to hand combat. The winner would settle the battle for both sides. (It was a tactic that saved many lives. Each side would send out their best fighter.)

Goliath taunted the Israelites to send a man out to fight against him.

From a human perspective, Goliath was invincible. He was over nine feet tall, a hardened, experienced soldier, fully clad with armor, and he had a huge sword. The men of the Israelite army refused to face him out of fear (and lack of faith). David was a young shepherd who played the harp. He had never been in a battle or fought a soldier of any size. But, David had a weapon who could slay an army with one word.

David knew who would be fighting the battle for him. He told all the people present,”…for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” David may have launched the rock that hit the giant, but it was God who directed it and put the power behind it.

Obstacles can develop circumstances for God’s glory and our victory. The choice is ours. Step out in faith.
