Luke 12:34 “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
That’s hard for any of us to think about. We have things that mean a lot to us, and we wouldn’t want to sell them or lose them. It’s not that they have great monetary value, but they do have a soft spot in our heart. In light of Jesus words, I have to ask myself, “Do my things have more value to me than God?”
We realize earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and wildfires can take our treasures on earth, but we don’t want to think about it happening to us. We ache and pray for those who have lost their homes, maybe all their possessions, but do we ache and pray for those who are ‘wretched, pitiful, blind, and naked’ without Jesus? (Revelation 3:17)
What we treasure is evident in our actions. If God is our treasure it will show in our way of life.
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NASB)
