Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.”
Many years ago, my dad and I went rabbit hunting. He was walking around this mountain one way, and I was going around the other way. I had a single shot .22 which I had gotten for Christmas. As I walked along I looked right and left for that big rabbit. All of a sudden, I heard a rattle, and the biggest rattlesnake I’d ever seen was right in front of me on the path. I stepped back a few feet and shot at it. And shot at it…and shot. The snake just kept crawling away into a huge pile of rocks–safe and sound.
I finished off my hunting trip by walking the rest of the trail around the mountain to meet my dad. But I never took my eyes off the path again.
It’s easy to get our eyes off the path. So many things may tempt us. But remember that “snake in the grass” lies waiting for the unwary.
