Roy’s Blog: “What Is Good?”

I Thessalonians 5:21-22 “Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”

One of Satan’s most prominent lies is, “If it feels good, just do it.” Most of what the devil holds out to us in temptation feels good, enjoyable, at least for a while. The world says if something is bright, dazzling, and sounds good, it’s good. That is simply not true. Feelings can be very deceptive and fleeting.

Much of what the world offers is empty of real substance. It won’t stand the test of time. I liken it to a good looking used car. The interior looks good, smells fresh and clean. The body is free of dents and scratches and the paint job looks like new. Even the tires appear brand new. It’s unbelievable how good a deal it is. You’re completely sold on the deal. It looks good, smells good, and makes you feel good. But, it doesn’t drive like a thoroughbred. It goes down the road like a worn out mule. After a week or two, it gets a squeak in the dash every time you hit a little bump. It drives you crazy. Later you find out the car was washed away in a flood. The outside is fine. The inside has been restored, but underneath all the cosmetic changes, you have a car that won’t last.

This is how Satan deceives you, making things look good on the outside, but not showing what is the reality. God wants us to test all things–using the good judgment and knowledge He gives us. If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t. Go to God, even in the little things, because our lives are made up of the little every day things.
