Roy’s Blog: “This Is The Day”

Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Scientist say that the way you start your day affects the mood for the rest of the day. (That’s Satan-speak for, “God has no control over your day!”) It’s so easy to be down in the morning, especially if you aren’t a morning person. First, you don’t want to crawl out of a nice warm bed when you’re so comfortable. Then, you don’t want to get dressed and go to work. If a problem comes up early in the morning, it’s hard to deal with.

Several years ago, my wife called me at about 4:15 AM. She had a flat on the way to work. I got back up, dressed, and made my way to where she was. I let her take the truck on to work, so she wouldn’t be late, then I put the spare on the car. I started back home down the loop, got just a minute down the road and a deer ran into the side of the car. Oh, woe is me! I got out, expecting the worst, but found no damage, just a few deer hairs caught in the edge of the light. The deer had run off, so I think it was okay.

This could have been considered a terrible day. Instead, I rejoiced in it. My wife was okay. The flat tire didn’t blow out and cause her to wreck. She got to work on time. The deer didn’t cause any damage to the car. I was wide awake, so I stopped at the donut shop and got a donut and a chocolate milk to celebrate. Got home went back to bed for a short while, and restarted my day a little later.

Whatever comes your way, rejoice in the day. Face the trials with your eyes on Jesus. Your attitude will be so much different.
