Roy’s Blog: “Rest”

Matthew 11:28 (NLT) Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus tells us, “Come to Me for stress reduction, for management of the pressures of life, and I will give you rest for your soul.” Your problem is not overworked muscles. In fact most of us could use a little more of a physical workout. Your problem is emotional stress, anxiety, and tension. It’s your soul that is in need of rest. Jesus wants us to come to Him when we feel the burdens start get the best of us.

Where do you normally turn when you feel stressed out? Some will turn to the television, or to food. Some will turn to alcohol or a pill. These things only add to your problems. Jesus says to come to Him.

My wife use to go to Wal-Mart after work. She would walk around, looking at everything. She might buy something, but many times she would leave without anything. By the time she got home, much of the stress and frustration was gone. Her soul was at rest, and we could talk about our day. God works in mysterious ways.

Psalm 62:1a “Truly my soul finds rest in God…”
