Roy’s Blog: “Quiet Before The Storm”

Deuteronomy 20:1 “When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The Lord your God, who brought you safely out of Egypt, is with you.”

The big news in  Israel is not that Iran attempted to send Kamikaze drones into Israeli territory last week or that Israel, using new technology, destroyed a weapons factory with Iran’s own drones. Rather, it was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordering officials from the security establishment to brief his chief rival for the seat before the September 17th elections.

Why so? It’s a rare move to brief a rival like the former Israel Defense Force’s Chief of Staff, unless it signals that Israel is readying itself for a major conflict on one or more fronts. Tensions in the Gaza strip and along the Lebanese border could explode at any time, while the situation in Syria continues to grow in intensity with Iranian forces building up.

Yoel Guzansky, a Senior Researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, at Tel Aviv University, cautioned, “We need to be careful and open our eyes. I think something is coming up. This is the quiet before the storm.”
