Roy’s Blog: “Catch Me”

Psalm 32:10 “Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.”

I remember the my first tree house my friend, Gene, and I built. It was pretty high up in the tree. We were so proud of our accomplishment, standing back, admiring it from all sides. It was a work of art. But, the real test was to come. We needed to get up there and walk around in it. I couldn’t relax though. The ground seemed a long way down and wasn’t a good landing spot if things didn’t go well. Gene couldn’t get over my lack of trust in our handiwork and laughed at me. Until the moment it fell. Thank the Lord, I had a death grip on a limb close by.

One of my favorite stories of trust is about Peter. The disciples were in a ship crossing the Sea of Galilee when a violent storm came up. Jesus had stayed behind. The disciples looked out into the rolling waves, and there was Jesus, walking on top of the water! Peter pleaded with Jesus to let him join Him. Jesus invited him to come. Peter got out of the boat, stood on the water, and began walking toward Jesus.

“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, Lord save me.” Matthew 14:30. Jesus reached out and took Peter’s hand and kept him from sinking.

Had Peter kept his eyes on Jesus and not looked around at the storm, he wouldn’t have failed. Many times, much like Peter, we take our eyes off the Savior and get caught up in the storm going on around us. But He is always faithful to catch us when we cry out to Him.
