Roy’s Blog: “What’s Important”

I Corinthians 13:13 (NLT) “There are three things that will endure: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.”

We have an amazing capacity to both remember and forget. We remember every hurt, every slight, we ever had in life. But, we tend to forget the lessons that are to be learned there. I can remember standing out in high school as the boy with long hair. Most had buzz-cuts or “butches” as they were called. I came from California to Texas when I was a teen, so my looks didn’t fit in at first.  I got some remarks aimed to hurt or embarrass me. (Of course, I could use some of that hair now.)

What lesson could be learned from that time? What mattered was how I reacted. Did I let anger at a few words keep me from forming a good relationship with others? Or did I take those feelings and remember to treat others better, show God’s love instead.

Sometimes we have to learn lessons over and over. We need to pray like David, “God, remind me what’s important in life. Help me remember what matters most.”

Love is what matters most. It’s not about long hair or short hair, our size or weight, or how many friends we have on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

Fill your life with love. That’s what is most important.
