We come into the world needy, demanding to be satisfied. As infants we don’t want too much. A little something to eat, a warm cuddly place to sleep, a dry diaper, and lots of love. Of course, mama needs to stay where I can see her at all times.

As we grow older our needs grow with us. As adults we need a little upgrade: the house we want so we can be comfortable, the furniture and appliances, the car, and don’t forget the perfect coffee pot. It’s not that we are hard to please. There are basic things we need to be satisfied so we can relax and enjoy life. But, it seems there is always something.

People who grew up in hard times, say the depression, can make do with very little and be happy. They realize just how little it takes. Some who grew up in homes where few comforts could be provided, tend to go overboard. They want to give their children things or opportunities they didn’t have.

Are you content with what you have? Or, are you yearning for more?

Philippians 4:12 “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”
