John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
Adam and Eve lived in a perfect environment. They were surrounded with beauty and abundance. A garden, filled with flowers and all manner of trees, was theirs to enjoy. God gave them only one prohibition, one thing withheld from them. A single tree in the center of the garden which they were forbidden to eat the fruit of. (Genesis 2:17) “From the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die.”
If they had obeyed God, Adam and Eve would have continued to live in the midst of all His blessings. They had free access to the ‘tree of life’. They could still be alive today.
It all boils down to our choices. They chose to disobey God. They were removed from the beautiful garden, and no longer had access to the tree of life. Yes, they eventually died.
So often we forget what the Lord has done for us and want to go our own way. We forget the abundance He has given us, and reach out for those things Satan tempts us with. Things that look so good, but only lead to trouble in the end.
Obedience is the key to the full blessings of the Lord.
Proverbs 3:33b The Lord…”blesses the home of the upright.”
