Psalm 23:4 “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Life is a mixture of pain and pleasure, victory and defeat, success and failure, and mountain tops and valleys.
In Israel there is a real Valley of the Shadow of Death. It’s a steep, deep, and narrow canyon. The sun only hits the bottom of it when it is directly overhead at high noon. The rest of the time the bottom is filled with darkness.
In the Bible “valley” is often used to refer to the rough times in life. Times when the way is filled with darkness and you can’t see what is up ahead. Times when life is scary.
How you handle the dark valleys of life determines your testimony to your family and friends. It’s easy when you’re on the mountaintop. But it’s how you handle the valleys that makes your testimony. I’m so glad the Lord walks with me through the dark times. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,” He is with me.
