Hebrews 13:5 “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.”
When you know that promise way down deep in your soul, it will revolutionize your life. When everything else is stripped away, when all the things we are attached to are gone, God is still there saying, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The only true place for your trust is in Him. Everything else will fade away or let us down. Our tendency is to put our trust in things, what we can touch…see.
If you put your trust in people, they can let you down. Maybe not on purpose, but because they human and fallible and limited in their knowledge. If you put your trust in money, you can see right away how that can let you down. Power? You can lose that in a heartbeat.
The Bible is full of people, just like our generation, who build bigger barns to store stuff. The rich young ruler who went away sad because he had so much, and couldn’t part with it to follow Jesus. Felix and his wife Drusilla and Ananias with his wife Sapphira who cheated because of a desire for things…money, are two other examples. Possessions meant so much to them. We are the same way.
How can I believe in a God I cannot see? Faith. That is where we fail miserably. We try to put our faith/trust in our things because we can see and touch them. Where is the faith in that?
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Step out in faith in God. Abraham, Noah, Job, Daniel…their faith carried them through tremendously difficult circumstances. That faith was not in things or their abilities, but in a holy God.
One lesson from this coronavirus is clear. Don’t put your faith, your trust, in what you have. Trust God and His promise to “never forsake us.”
