Roy’s Blog: “The Wrong Choice”

Genesis 13:10 “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.”

Probably during the time Lot spent in the land with Abram, at night he would push back the flap of his tent and look across at the plains of Jordan and think, “Isn’t that a beautiful spot down there?” In the morning he would get up look across to that spot and say, “My, that is an attractive piece of land.”

The grass is always greener in someone else’s pasture. The water is sweeter, there are less weeds, and the land is more fertile. It’s always better over there.

When the day came that Lot and Abram had to go separate ways because their herds were too big to stay in the one place, you know the direction Lot went. His mind had already been made up. He “pitched his tent toward Sodom”. (Genesis 13:12)

It turned out later to be a very bad choice. He looked at the good things, the things he wanted to see. But he never checked into what else (or who else) was in that land.

Abram stayed in Canaan. He didn’t move until God spoke to him and told him to chose from the land He offered. God told Abram to arise and walk through the length and breadth of the land he chose. Abram knew exactly what he was getting and, since God directed him, he knew it would be good.

Psalm 27:14 “Wait patiently for the Lord; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the Lord.”

Psalm 37:34a “Wait for the Lord and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land…”

If you wait on the Lord, you won’t make the wrong choice.
