I Corinthians 4:10a “We are fools for Christ’s sake…”
After Jesus’s crucifixion, Paul, at perhaps forty years old, was on his way to Damascus with letters in his hand from the high priest saying he could go after all the ones following this Jesus at do away with them (prosecute them). God chose that moment on the road to reverse Paul’s life forever.
In later years Paul described the event calmly, saying simply that God “was pleased to reveal His Son to me.” Galatians 1:16. In Acts, the event is recounted three times in detail.
Paul was nearing Damascus when a brilliant light from heaven surrounded him. A voice addressed Paul by his Hebrew name, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Paul was dumbfounded. He could only ask, “Who are you, Lord?” The next words Paul heard crushed his world and transformed his future.
The voice answered, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Acts 9:4-5
The experience transformed Paul’s life. He wrote thirteen books of the Bible and went on many missionary journeys to carry the Good News of Jesus Christ to others.
