Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

Forever. How many things last forever? Some environmentalists would say plastic will stay forever in landfills, but no, they won’t. Sun and other elements will eventually break them down. Parts may still be there a long time, but they will have changed–degraded; they’re unusable. Forever is a long time. This verse is saying the only thing that will stand forever, without changing, is God’s word. His instructions, His promises, His love.

Many people today are having trouble keeping it together during this pandemic and these prophesied perilous times. Why? Because many people build their hopes and dreams on nothing more that empty promises based on fables, human opinion, and yes worldly dreams.

The Word of God however, is a living and powerful force. No one is weakened or misguided or hopeless or disappointed by knowing and following its doctrine and precepts. There is nothing in this world that can equal the stability and hope provided for us through God’s Word.

Knowing the Word of God is of more value that thousands of coins in gold or silver. We know this is true because gold or silver (or paper dollars) are of no comfort or benefit when tragedy or trauma strikes. But the Word of the Living God will make all the difference. It will comfort and sustain us; it will empower and embolden us. It will give us hope in the dark reaches of life.

There is nothing like God’s Word!

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
