Roy’s Blog: “The Big Picture”

2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction , and for training in righteousness.”

It doesn’t say part of the scripture, the part you like maybe: John 3:16 about how “God so loved the world” but, all scripture…the ones you might not like; “Love your neighbor as yourselves”; pray for those who abuse you; the only way to heaven is through the blood of Jesus Christ. It is all God breathed for man (the prophets) to write down.

I can remember, years ago, going to the drive-in theater as a child so our family could watch a movie on the “big screen”. It was a night out that at the time didn’t cost much, and we could enjoy the drama and experience the thrill of the movie almost like you were right there in the movie. But, we always knew, it was just a movie, characters played by real people.

Today, between the media (on the large screen TVs) and going to the store or mall, I often have that same feeling of being right there in a horror movie, one that I can’t seem to get out of. I wake up in the morning and it’s all still there. The world has turned so far from God, that it’s hard to recognize it anymore. There is not one area of life, not one sin that is not flourishing in society today. They are promoted in our movies, a constant barrage on our TV shows, even the commercials. In stores, the same thing is happening. You go to buy your child/grandchild a toy for birthday or Christmas and you will see the promotion of things you would never have dreamed.

There is another “Big Picture”, one that does not change, and that is the Lord. His word is the same as it outlines behavior and the expectation of God that we use His Word as reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. It’s not too late to start that training. Read the Bible, read it to your children and grandchildren. Change the world!
