Roy’s Blog: “Cobwebs”

I John 3:8 (NASB) “The one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.”

A few years ago, a spider (or spiders) wove a cobweb across the entryway to the back of our house (the way we always go in and out). I couldn’t believe how hard it was to see it, but when you walked through it you definitely felt it. I got a day’s worth of exercise in just a minute or two trying to get it off my face. Every day I would use a broom to tear down the web, but by the next morning or sooner, it would be right back in the same place. I used the broom and swept a larger area, but it didn’t change a thing. He was a tough little critter.

I knew something different had to be done. I had to go to the source. Finally, I sprayed the whole area with pesticide, wetting down very well. I either killed the culprit or he decided to move to another state (or area). Fine with me though. The problem was finally solved.

Many people approach sin in the same way that I first dealt with the cobweb. Knock it down for a little while, but it comes back. The only real solution is to allow Jesus Christ to kill the power of sin in your life. Jesus came and died to take away the devil’s power over sin in your life. Let Him! Follow Him today and every day of your life. You will have victory!
