Roy’s Blog: “Waiting”

Psalms 27:14 “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord.”

Waiting is one of the most irritating things in modern life. Why do I always hit every red light, especially when I’m in a hurry? When I have an appointment weeks or months ahead of time, why am I left waiting forever in the waiting room? They knew I was coming. Let’s face it, we are an impatient people. But there is something to be learned from having to wait. Being forced to wait, teaches us patience. It’s called discipline.

The discipline of patiently waiting is something few of us have developed. It starts in the home. If a child always gets what it wants instantly, they don’t learn patience. Don’t give in early when you say to wait until a specific time because the child fusses or demands it now. Teach that patience is rewarded.

Learning to wait patiently on God strengthens our faith that God will accomplish His will and purpose in our lives, in His time, and in His perfect way. Too many have preempted God’s will because of impatience. We will experience peace and joy knowing our patience has brought about God’s perfect will in our lives. Is it easy? No, but it is worth it.

When you experience that next stressful moment of something pushing, rushing you to act right now…just take a step back and wait. Let God make the right road very clear for you to proceed.

Isaiah 40:31 “Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
