Matthew 24:6 (NIV) “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”
Our world is sitting on a tinderbox. The definition of a tinderbox (for those who have never started a fire in a fireplace or wood stove) is a box containing tinder (kindling) or other things to easily get a fire going. All it would take is someone to strike the match on the global stage and our world would ignite.
Make no mistake, like the first two world wars, everyone saw the terrible possibilities, but almost no one really thought it would happen. They thought cooler heads would prevail. But they didn’t. Evil prevailed beyond anyone’s imagination with casualties of well over 110 million people. That doesn’t even count the pain and suffering brought to the masses.
Now it is happening again. This time it is different. We have the added threat of nuclear weapons. Few believe any country would be crazy enough to use them, but the possibilities are there and can’t be ignored. Does the head of Iran, or Russia act like cooler heads would prevail? I haven’t seen any evidence of it.
War threatens every part of the earth from Asia to the Middle East, and yes, to America. Today nine nations have nuclear weapons. We are sitting on a “tinderbox” with too many hotheads carrying around matches. The signs are all there. Will cooler heads prevail? Let’s pray they will.
